The short version: announcement content is never stored. Attendees share only a typed name and a language preference. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no sale of data.
Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Language Layer ("we," "us," or "our"), operated by Johnson Strategy, LLC, values your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, what we never do, and your rights when you use Language Layer (the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to this policy.
2. Information we collect
- From attendees: a first name or business name that you type, your chosen language, and your chosen format (captions, plain language, spoken audio, or sign). No account, no password, no email, no phone number.
- From hosts: the space name you type and the announcements you send while the space runs.
- Delivery records: for every message delivered, a receipt showing when, to which language and format, how fast, which translation source was used, and a quality score. Receipts never contain the message text.
- Technical basics: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) used for security, rate limiting, and debugging, retained briefly.
3. Site analytics
We count page visits using Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics service: no cookies, no personal tracking, no identification of visitors.
4. What we never do
Announcement content is never stored: each message is translated, delivered to connected attendees, and discarded. We do not sell or rent any data. We do not show ads. We do not track you across spaces or across the web. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. Attendee presence expires automatically when you disconnect.
5. Who processes data on our behalf
Translation is performed by AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) under their API terms, which state that API content is not used to train their models. Hosting is provided by Render and database storage by Neon, with encryption in transit. These providers process data only to deliver the Services.
6. Voice features
If a host uses voice input, the spoken audio is transcribed by an AI provider and then discarded. If an attendee chooses spoken audio, the speech is generated on the attendee's own device.
7. Transcripts
A host may export a transcript of their space: the announcements sent and the delivery results. Transcripts belong to the host's organization, which is responsible for handling them under its own policies.
8. Your rights
You may request a copy or deletion of records associated with you at any time by emailing angela@invest-in-access.org. Deletion removes your profile and preferences and pseudonymizes your delivery receipts. If you joined a space run by an organization, that organization is the controller of its event records, and we will support its obligations to you.
9. Minors
Language Layer is used in venues that may include minors, such as schools. We collect no accounts and no contact information from any attendee beyond a typed first name and a language preference. Hosts are responsible for using the Services consistent with their obligations to the people in their spaces.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date above will change, and material changes will be noted on this page. Continued use after a change means acceptance of the updated policy.
Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Language Layer, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.
2. Use of the Services
You agree to use the Services only for lawful purposes. Hosts are responsible for the content of their announcements and for their organizations' legal obligations to attendees.
3. Emergency communication
Language Layer is not a life safety system. Venues must maintain their own emergency procedures as the system of record, and must not rely on the Services as the sole channel for life safety communication.
4. AI translation
Translations are produced by AI systems and quality scored on every delivery. AI translation is not a substitute for certified human interpreters in medical, legal, or crisis settings; venues remain responsible for legal interpretation obligations in such settings.
5. Intellectual property
The Language Layer software, architecture, and documentation are the property of Johnson Strategy, LLC. Hosts own their announcements and exported transcripts.
6. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Services are provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Johnson Strategy, LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Services.
7. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, USA.
